Around Chalet Sky: Val d'Hérens
The Hérens and Hérémence valleys are among the wildest and most beautiful in Switzerland, with a variety of well-marked trails for families.
The Thyon les Collons tourist office at the entrance to the village promotes gentle and sporty tourism: hikes along the bisses, excursions, blueberry and mushroom picking, queen fights, visits to local cheese dairies, marmot watching, ibex and other mountain wildlife observation.

While the Matterhorn, the Dent Blanche and the Jungfraujoch may be the most obvious sights, the majestic Grande Dixence dam will soon become apparent to the most attentive among you. With a wall of 285 meters, it is the highest gravity dam in the world. It’s a must-see for the technically minded and those who love zip-lining and paragliding. Then visit the astonishing Hérémence church, impressive for its shapes and play of light, built from the same concrete as the dam.
They are also known as “fairy chimneys” or “coiffed damsels”. They have big cousins in the Devrent valley in Cappadocia and in Bryce Canyon in Utah. The pyramids of Euseigne are natural cone-shaped reliefs formed by the degradation of moraines following the last ice age. Don’t miss the suspension bridge over the Grande Combe before continuing on to Evolène, Les Haudères, Arolla and Ferpècle.
